The Atherton Heritage Centre in Barham Village Hall

In July 1923 The History Society was delighted when Wendi Atherton opened the Society’s Heritage Centre.

Maurice and Wendi Atherton were strong advocates for the development of the general understanding of history in our area and gave considerable support for the creation of the archive and a suitable place to house it.

We hold an extensive range of historical documents, photographs, maps and other material of historic interest relating in the main to the parishes of Adisham, Barham, Bishopsbourne, Kingston and Wymynswold. The centre is very much a working environment where research in the past and the tracing of family trees can be done in a conducive environment.

The Centre is available to members as well as to the general public who are invited to visit on Wednesdays between the hours of 10.00 am and 12 Noon. Should this not be convenient then the archivist John Reynolds would be happy to make the facility available at other times.

To arrange this please telephone John on 01227 830384
